Product Description

Penstemon strictus

Rocky Mountain penstemon is a perennial native to the Rocky Mountain region of the western United States. It grows to a height of 12 to 30 inches with a basal rosette of dark green leaves. The royal blue to purple snapdragon-like flowers grow on one side of an upright stem. The bloom period is May through July. It is drought-resistant and is useful for soil stabilization. Rocky Mountain penstemon thrives in rocky and sand-loam, well drained soils at elevations of 6,000 to 11,000 feet. Planting dates should be just prior to the moist growing season, usually spring to early summer. Deer, antelope and birds find this flower attractive for feed as well as some small birds as a form of cover.
