Purple prairie clover is a native, warm season, perennial, legume that has a variety of uses. Native Americans used the plant for food, tea, and medicinal purposes. Wildlife and livestock readily graze on this excellent forage producer due to its high protein content. Purple Prairie Clover makes a beautiful addition to any garden due to its attractive flower and it's ability to fixate nitrogen into the soil. It is also used in mixtures for re-vegetation and prairie restoration. This drought tolerant plant should be planted in well drained soils and is adapted to clay, loam or sandy soil types
