Product Description

Liatris pycnostachya

Gayfeather or Blazingstar is a Wildflower native to the Western Great Plains. The fluffy spikes of bright purple flowers start blooming from the top and work their way down. Blooms increase as the plants become established and as flowers are removed by picking or dead-heading. The plant grows in the wild on stream banks and ditch sides, needing well drained and good soils with plenty of sun. It is an excellent bee and butterfly plant. Use in large clumps in beds and borders. They are popular and long-lasting as cut flowers with their fairly tall stems. Plant in Spring from seed or by dividing up older plants.
